Here you’ll find answers to common questions about our backpacks.
Consider switching when the first school backpack no longer fits the child's back or daily capacity needs. Models for 3rd–7th grade offer around 26–30 L and a more mature design. Choose by current fit and school needs rather than grade alone.
Our school backpacks for grades 3–7 are all designed for busy school days, with a focus on ergonomics, quality, and durability. All models feature a padded back panel and shoulder straps, anatomically shaped back support, an adjustable chest strap, and a (removable) hip belt to provide support and carrying comfort. Water-repellent materials and space for a laptop or tablet make them practical for everyday use.
The choice mainly comes down to how much space your child needs, and which fit and style they prefer:
Sport Air – 30 litres: For children who want extra carrying comfort and plenty of space.
The back system combines air cushioning and padding for dynamic support, and the backpack stands securely on the ground when put down.
Sport Junior – 30 litres: Our sporty bestseller for active school days.
Plenty of practical pockets and generous space make it easy to keep school essentials organised – a sporty choice when your child has outgrown their first school backpack.
Street Bold – 20 litres: Urban style in a compact school backpack.
For children who need less packing space and prefer a clean, modern look – with a zip that opens all the way around for easy access and a clear view of the contents.
Urban Midi – 26 litres: The timeless all-rounder for school and leisure.
Its classic design, genuine leather details, and separate protected laptop compartment suit children who want a medium-sized backpack with a more understated look.
Try the backpack with the items your child normally takes to school. The right fit and correct adjustment matter more than school grade alone.
In grades 3–7, children often carry more books and equipment, increasing the weight of their load. Good weight distribution and support therefore become especially important for carrying comfort. Beckmann’s padded back panel, adjustable straps, chest strap, and hip belt are designed to distribute the load effectively and ease the strain on the back and shoulders.
Our backpacks are recommended by chiropractors and experts in children’s health and ergonomics. To get the most out of the carrying system, it is important to adjust the backpack correctly and pack the heaviest items closest to the back.
*The hip belt is removable on Sport Junior, Sport Air, and Street Bold.

All Beckmann school backpacks are made from water-repellent materials, but they are not fully waterproof. In rainy weather, we recommend using a rain cover to protect the backpack and its contents. All our models for schoolchildren come with a rain cover.
Our school backpacks are made to withstand everyday use, being dropped, dragged around and used outdoors. With 80 years of experience, we know what it takes to make backpacks that can handle an active everyday life. All Beckmann school backpacks are designed for daily use by children, using durable materials and meeting strict quality standards.
Beckmann backpacks are built to last for years of daily use and come with a 4-year warranty against manufacturing and material defects. You can extend their lifespan even further with affordable spare parts if a buckle or strap wears out.
Yes, our school backpacks for grades 3–7 have reflective details that help make your child easier to see when illuminated by light, such as car headlights. Their placement and coverage vary between models: Sport Junior and Sport Air have reflective details on all sides, while Street Bold has reflectors on the shoulder straps.
Most models also include a rain cover with a large reflective area that provides extra visibility in the dark when illuminated by light, such as car headlights. The rain cover can therefore also be used on dark days, even when it isn’t raining.
If the rain cover is not included in te backpack, you can buy it seperately in our store.
For good visibility on dark journeys to and from school, we recommend adding a reflective vest or extra reflectors, especially when your child walks or cycles alone.
Yes, Sport Junior, Sport Air, Street Bold, and Urban Midi have dedicated protective compartments or pockets for a laptop or tablet. These keep the device in place and separate from other school essentials.
We recommend washing your backpack by hand with a mild liquid detergent. If you choose to use a washing machine, remove the rain cover, aluminium rib, decorative buttons, flashing light, and air cushion where applicable. Place the backpack in a pillowcase to prevent the straps from getting caught, and select a gentle cycle. Air-dry the backpack and do not tumble-dry it. Please note that damage caused by machine washing is not covered by the warranty.

We use certified materials and follow requirements for chemical safety and responsible production:
- Global Recycled Standard (GRS): Our rPET material is certified. This verifies its recycled content and sets requirements for traceability, chemicals, environmental practices and working conditions.
- OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100: Our textile materials are certified and tested for harmful substances.
- REACH and the POPs Regulation: We follow EU regulations that restrict the use of harmful chemicals in products. These are legal requirements, not certifications.
- EN 71-3: Products intended for preschool children and pupils in grades 1–3 are also tested according to this standard, which sets limits on the amounts of certain substances, including heavy metals, that materials can release.
- Fair Wear Foundation: Beckmann is a member and works to improve working conditions at its suppliers. This is a membership, not a certification of individual backpacks.
For you, this means verified recycled material, textiles tested for harmful substances and ongoing work to improve conditions for the people who make your backpack.
